We are happy to report that our Membership Appreciation events were successful.

Three of our members left with winning a basket, and Shelley (President), had the assistance from a members daughter.

We want to congratulate the following members, Candace DeCoste, Kerri Faulkner, and Bonnie Ashton on winning their baskets.

Members got the opportunity to relax and chat with members of the executive and other members in a social setting with some snacks.

This year will be a year to celebrate our membership.

Our Executive will be hosting 2 events, Sunday June 8 at Halifax Central Library, and Sunday June 22 at Zatzman Sportsplex.

Our members are home from the 61st CUPE NS Convention. This year there were many resolutions that CUPE Local 5047 brought forward to bring awareness of Violence in the Workplace, but especially in schools and lobbying with CUPE NS to bring more awareness to parents and the public. Members spoke about the dangers within schools and how schools continue to increase the number of support workers in each school. Members were heard and supported through personal testimonies and thoughts and feelings.

We are honoured that the following members have been elected at this years convention to join CUPE NS committees; Calvin Scott, Tammy Jakeman, and Kristin Welbourn. We would like to extend a congratulations to Anne Marie Danch, who will return as the Central Area VP and sit on the executive board of CUPE NS.

This year 25 members of local 5047 attended convention. This is an incredible opportunity for members to join in meaningful Union work, but to extend their knowledge and meet individuals across NS. L
