First Aid Reimbursement
A permanent employee for whom CPR/First Aid is a requirement for their position may take one day to participate in recertification training in the year in which their certificate expires*. (This training is to be arranged and paid for directly by the employee through Article 29.)
The use of such a day can occur:
- on a non-instructional day that does not occur in September or June; or
- on a day that will count towards the employee’s allotted number of personal days.
Prior approval from the Employee’s supervisor is required.
Employees will apply for and request reimbursement
*If a current employee has expired certification at the date of signing, they will be eligible for the provisions in this Letter of Understanding for a period of one year from the date of signing.

Applicants must be a Permanent employee with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
Substitute days are not provided for this training.
Prior approval from the Employee’s supervisor must be provided for the day the employee will be absent to take the training. The use of such a day can occur:
- on a non-instructional day that does not occur in September or June; or
- on a day that will count towards the employee’s allotted number of personal days.
Original itemized receipt along with proof of successful completion of the training must be submitted within 30 days of completion of the training.
The specific date of the training must be included.
Only the cost of registration for the training will be reimbursed.
All reimbursements will be in Canadian funds. If receipts are not in Canadian Funds, proof of conversion to Canadian funds at point of purchase must be provided (ie. a credit card statement or bank receipt showing conversion rate; conversion rates printed from the internet are not acceptable).
